In the article, the attention to the so-called «Donetsk People’s Republic» is due to the fact that it has been an occupied part of Donetsk Oblast since 2014. It was certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts that came under the attack of «separatists», the pro-Russian population and Russian terrorists, if not the first. From that time until today, the Russian authorities have been forming a conscious bearer of «Russian peace» in the occupied territories. One of the tools for this was the school educational policy, which was designed to reformat the children’s worldview and adjust it to a «special Donbas» and now an open, aggressive Russian one at the first stages.
The tasks of the research are to study its source and historiographic base; highlighting issues and narratives that were highlighted in textbooks on the history of the region in the occupied territories; elucidation of the mechanisms of influence on the formation of schoolchildren’s worldview. The work applies the principles of scientific research, among which we single out the following: the principle of historicism, which involves the study of a question in its development; objectivity, which is characterized by an unbiased attitude to the coverage of certain events, phenomena and processes discussed in the article; the principle of specificity, which was applied during the characterization of the period and content of the study of the specified problem; comparative – when characterizing the content of textbooks and modern Ukrainian historical science.
The article describes the main periods of the history of the development of the Donetsk region within the Ukrainian SSR in the first post-war decades. The textbooks used by children in the occupied territories since 2014 were created on the basis of Soviet and Russianimperial ideology. It was the Moscow center that cared about the Ukrainian SSR as a whole and the region in particular. In textbooks there is a lot of digital material that is not analyzed, children are provided with a finished product, which is aimed at the formation of appropriate non-critical thinking and manipulation.
The theoretical significance of the article lies in the study of the material during courses on the history of Ukraine, local history, and media literacy not only for personal familiarization, but also to prevent manipulative influences on consciousness. The practical significance of the proposed study is in the process of introducing Ukrainian education standards in the de-occupied territories in the future. The perspectives of our scientific research may be the study of the history of other areas that were occupied after 2022.
